Air Balancing

Proper air balancing is vital to keeping various rooms in a building at a constant temperature. Air balancing, also known as air flow adjustments, is used to regulate temperature in a building of any size. 1. Finding the heat load for the building in question.
2. Record information from all equipment, supply and return registers, and grills.
3. The proper airflow for each register and grill is recorded after analyzing the load information.
4. Airflow and static pressures created by the duct system are recorded after the system is turned on.
5. Airflow at the registers and grilles is measured with an airflow hood or hot wire anemometer, and recorded for individual outlet and inlet.
6. Adjustments are made to the dampers to make the system closer to ideal settings, and then measurements are repeated until airflow is within 10% of what was intended in the design.
